Plain-English summary: Sew Smarter only asks for personal information when there is a reason to do so, such as when you contact us or choose to join our email list. We do not sell your personal information.

1. Who we are

Sew Smarter is a Reddington Works project operated by Richard Reddington in the United Kingdom. For this website, Richard Reddington / Reddington Works is the data controller responsible for deciding how personal data is used.

You can contact us through the Contact page.

  • Newsletter information: your email address, any optional name you provide, your marketing-consent choice, and the date/time of your submission.
  • Contact enquiries: your name, email address, subject and message.
  • Technical and security information: hosting and security services may process information such as IP address, browser/device information, request logs and timestamps to deliver and protect the website.

4. Email marketing

We only send Sew Smarter marketing emails to people who have actively chosen to receive them. The signup request explains that emails may include sewing tips, new guides and carefully selected product recommendations, some of which may contain affiliate links.

You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe option in an email or our Unsubscribe page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before withdrawal.

5. Who may process your data

We may use service providers that help us host the website, receive form submissions, send email, prevent spam or maintain the service. At present, the website is hosted on Netlify and website forms may be processed through Netlify Forms. If we add a dedicated email-delivery provider, this notice will be updated as appropriate.

We do not give newsletter subscriber details to the products or merchants we recommend merely because they are featured on Sew Smarter.

6. Affiliate links and external websites

Some pages contain affiliate links. If you choose to click one, you leave Sew Smarter and the destination website may collect information or use its own tracking technologies. Those websites are responsible for their own privacy practices. See our Affiliate Disclosure and Cookie Policy.

7. International processing

Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data-protection law requires safeguards for an international transfer, we expect the relevant provider or arrangement to use an appropriate lawful transfer mechanism.

8. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, legal obligations, security or dispute resolution. Newsletter records are kept while you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we may retain a minimal suppression record where necessary to make sure you are not added back to marketing unintentionally and to demonstrate that an opt-out was received. Contact enquiries are reviewed periodically and deleted when they are no longer reasonably needed.

9. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to ask for access to your personal data, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or to object to certain processing. Where processing is based on consent, you can withdraw that consent.

To exercise a right, use our Contact page. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

10. Complaints

If you have a concern, please contact us first so we can try to resolve it. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

11. Children

Sew Smarter is not directed at children and we do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children for marketing purposes.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when the website, our service providers or the law changes. The latest version will always be published on this page with an updated date.
